Just another oxymoron hoping for a brighter future.

If we are made of what we make of our lives, then I suspect the majority of us are made of sleepless nightmares, stress, and pretending to be comfortable in our own skin.

Raining in Paris #songtitlepoem

October 9, 2018

I lit a candle in a beautifully
Unknown church
For you

You would've liked the brevity of it,
How the flame would flicker and fade
You, who would say it's representative of your life
You, who attempted to erase everything about you in your final days

I cannot bear that thought.
In my mind, that candle is still burning
Even though I haven't been there in months.

I'm sure the rain came
And washed away the echoes of my footsteps
And swept them into the River Seine.

For Paris, it is
Just another tourist,
Just another dying candle,
Just another rainy day.

"My heart's in the city of love, but it's raining in Paris."

This is a lyric from Raining in Paris by The Maine. It's not necessarily my favourite song, but I've been thinking about it quite a lot recently, and I think it lends nicely to Corner Writing Club's #songtitlepoem prompt.

@ Johanna Heya! Thank you :) I'm a bit unsure if you're going to read this (I'm not entirely sure this is how people talk to each other on this site, but in absence of a messaging system, I suppose this will do). Don't worry, randomness is the spice of life, and it's nice to meet a fellow oxymoron :)

This is beautiful! (and in response to your bio, I feel soooo oxymoron, like, all the time. Sorry, that was random.)
