FREE WRITING

12
Sometimes I worry you’ll hear my heart
Beating hard against my mind’s wishes
As you tell me ever so enthusiastically
That the equation I just did on the board was wrong

The smart things you say
Makes me sound like a blithering idiot
But somehow, my heart shields me from it
Because if I make you shine brighter in comparison, I do not mind

Sometimes I worry that you’ll see me blush
Even though my skin seems incapable of doing it
When you open the door for me
Because my hands are too full of books to reach the handle

I hate looking stupid in front of anyone
And somehow, it always happens around you
But it makes you laugh for a bit
So I will gladly trade momentary dignity to see you smile

Sometimes I wish you’d lean on me
When we watch movies in class
The way you do with anyone who sits next to you
But somehow, we always end up on opposite sides of the room

I don’t pretend to think you feel the same
If I did, the trip back to reality
Would be much too painful to bear
And my imagination has hurt me enough

Sometimes I wish you’d look at me
The way I find myself looking at you
But I know that you won’t
And there’s nothing “sometimes” about that

When I was in third grade I had a crush so hard on a boy that was in all the same classes on me, this could have described my whole relationship with him. Beautiful job :)
