Eyes of a Child

PROMPT: This I Believe

20
"I believe in fairies"
We said when we were younger
As we saw things
That dissipate like fog for older eyes

We believed that monsters hid under our bed
Swearing we could hear their growls
When we jumped, we touched the stars
Sometimes never coming back down

We saw giants in trees
Fairies in butterflies
Clouds made of cotton
Houses made of candy

Now, we don't always have the time
To simply look out the window
And see kingdoms on the horizon
Yet in dreams we'll remember
Seeing the world
Through the eyes of a child

This makes me kinda miss those days... but writing helps me to still see things that way.

I enjoyed this so much! I really connected to it. Although I feel like the odd one out, I try to keep my youthful side and mature side right beside me. ( I still see fairies :) )

This is so beautiful and nostalgic and sentimental. You wrote it so well, especially the third and fourth stanzas (it's all really amazing, I just really loved the last two for some reason) and it captures the feeling of growing up and missing childhood perfectly. Great job! :)

This is so beautifully nostalgic. To think we really saw such magic come to life as children. Perhaps, we can still see it and I hope that is so haha. Well done!!:))

Those days ... magical, timeless. I became a writer to preserve that feeling. You described it perfectly.
