Take My Hand

November 20, 2014

She makes a wish,

She says a prayer.

She feels a touch,

But no one’s there.

Her breathing is heavy,

Her hands are dripping.

The night is eerie,

The silence is sickening.

A shadow slowly forms,

And encompassing her.

A yelp falls from her lips,

But the others don’t stir.

For their time is not here,

For them to leave.

They are not yet finished,

With the lives they lead.

The girl lets out a breath,

And knew the doctors had lied.

So she took the bony hand,

And left for the other side.

A bit morbid, but wonderfully written. I love the rhythm you created with each verse, it helped the whole poem flow so it wasn't stilted or jarring as pieces like these sometimes can be. Good job Tess!
