Silence

April 28, 2018

You get used to the silence,
And sooner or later it is as familiar as sleep
Both cushioning you, as close as breath is
To your lips, your sighs not quite reaching far enough
To disturb the all-consuming
Quiet;

It fills my room, heavy
On my chest and filters
Through my pores, vaporous
Until I am silent too, as quiet and as dark
As the night around me,
My eyes wide open, but my mouth
Shut, drawn closed like the curtains
That wrap me in blue;

You get used to the silence,
And sooner or later it gets used to you.
