Those Which Produce Heat

February 24, 2018

Liquid rushes down your throat
In burning, alcoholic streams
He looks at you with eyes of ember
As you take your last shot
Fingers reach out and trail up
Leaving warmth on chilled skin
There’s a hand under your chin
Tilting your head up, and
He catches your lips with his
The kiss tastes of flames and gin
Igniting a feeling in your chest
That flickers like crackling fires
Pressing against a cold, dark world
This is an old assignment for my Creative Writing class two years back. The instructions for this particular piece was to write a love poem without mentioning the word 'love' or any of its synonyms.
