Night of Stars

the black dome
above you that
caps off the earth
has been there
forever
and will be there
forever.
adorned with winking orbs;
lights that form pictures
that fade during the day
only to materialize
once again at night.
because your dreams
are composed of images
crafted by stars
behind your eyelids.
the only inevitability
in this world is that
the sky will never be
completely dark.
even when you can't see
the stars beyond the
harsh contrast of
the vast blue air,
they hover above you
to reassure your
uncertain mind
and tell you that
everything will be ok.
