PROMPT: Living in Music

7
Train Tracks by Jason Webley

This train only runs in summer time.
The children have been left out of school.
You haven't packed. The bottoms of your shoes are cracked.
And your pass port has been kissed by the Holy Fool.

I'm not cynical or jaded or pessimistic, or whatever you want to call it. I'm actually pretty optimistic about this whole future thing. I like to think there's light at the end of every tunnel and a pot of gold (or at least friendship or some life lesson) at the end of every rainbow. However, sometimes, before you can find the light (that's the analogy I'm sticking with.) you need to acknowledge your in the dark.

Are you looking for salvation?
Are you looking for answers, for Jesus, for dancers,
To serve you some warmth on cold nights?
Are you looking for the thing that looks out through your eyes,
For something that won't leave your side,
On this lonely planet where everything's waving goodbye.

This song hangs in limbo. It accepts that there are those questions that you have not even come close to answering at this point in your journey. I want to live in this song because it is where I am and, probably, always will be. It comforts me and tells me 'Yes, this is where you are, but it's okay to be here.'

And this train only runs in summertime,
The only contradiction is the rule,
It's moving past, but it's not going to fast
And an open empty boxcar stares at you.
