I would appreciate it so much if you would review some of my work! I know it's not perfect, but it would be greatly appreciated.

Let Them Be Children, They Never Got The Chance

April 27, 2017

Here's to the babies
who cry in the night
Because mothers and fathers
won't break from their fight

Here's to the toddlers
Who tear up for no reason
because parents will hit them
whatever the season

Here's to the children
That hide behind doors
and they hear a BANG
they can't take any more

Here's to the preteens
that protect their brothers
they don't want them hurt
by their mothers

Here's to the teens
who say "This is wrong!"
When the beating comes down
And the hits are too strong

Here's to the graduate
Who is wary of men
Because fathers and uncles
had touched and raped them

Here's to the spouse
Who tries to be good
but feels like they weren't good
enough, and that they never would

Here's to the mother
Who vows to be different
And who says "I'm sorry, I'm sorry"
Time and Time again

Here's to the children
who wanted to dance
let them be children

They never got the chance.

Wow, what a strong and powerful piece. I love the structure and the wording of this poem, it really brings the reader on the journey being told. The message of the poem is also so beautifully sad, it brought tears to my eyes reading it. Thank you for sharing this. You have an amazing talent for writing, keep writing!!
