FREE WRITING

i've never understood the world
the way people belittle and blemish each other
and try to point out flaws instead of
searching, yearning for solitude

we can't look each other in the eye, or else we'll
feel guilty and vulnerable, the edge of
our hearts fraying and wearing down like a
succumbed sidewalk that can't bear the pain

i'll never understand the world
the way we discriminate others because of
race, sexuality, ethnicity, personality, cultures, religions;
we're not the same, but we're all human

why can't we find beauty in the world around us?
or the people who stand among a crowd?
beauty comes from within, but we've all been
searching in the wrong places
