Pressed Flowers

maybe the world is full of hope
maybe pressed flowers
aren't laminated plastic cut outs

maybe the world cannot cope
maybe it sinks down under the weight of oh so many artificial hours
so many houses and footsteps and shouts

it wants to collapse and fall down defeated but it can't - it's suspended in the Cold Emptiness
maybe it's being flattened like a pressed flower

as the world groans and shivers
and thinks - "it's oh so cold outside"

and writers press their thoughts inside pressed pages
to keep them warm in the world
with interwoven blankets of oh so many words

and if I were to be honest for a moment
I think that the pages of most books I've read, cold off the printing press
harshly jar with the warm fizzing burning soul the writer pours in to them

maybe every first chapter should be written by hand
maybe every first chapter should come with a pressed forget-me-not
that could sink into the pages and remind us that life is real

the intricate weight of the words
captures the world
and preserves it like a pressed flower

maybe the world still has some hope clinging to it
that hasn't fallen off and frozen
hasn't drifted away like a dandelion seed

maybe pressed flowers
aren't laminated plastic cut outs

maybe they're preserving the memory
of oh so many hours of sunlight in the fields

They could snap in my fingers like the brittle words and world we use.

encapsulated_emotions dared me to write a poem using the prompt "pressed flowers" haha - so I am officially daring her to write a poem about the world shivering, because it's cold outside :)

If you've read this poem thank you for taking the time to do that - I hope you liked it and thank you for/please feel free to leave any any comments, thoughts or feedback.

Wow... this feels so... whole. That doesn't really make sense but that's the word that keeps coming to mind for some reason.
