Fulfilled

June 22, 2021

prompt: a story or poem about an elderly person looking back on their life and recalling what they consider to be their greatest achievement. (NewPoet)

I asked my grandpa
“Was there ever a
Moment
Where you felt
That your life was
fulfilled?”
(As a young person, I’m trying to find it)

“Not really, no.
I didn’t have any
Goals
I just followed my grandpa’s advice.
I just went with the flow.”

Oh, a peculiar way to live.
Yet a path many take!

“I have four children,
All of them have settled,
Into their cozy homes,
And I don’t have to meddle.
My job was secure,
I was at high posts,
Even met the prime minister!”
He always boasts.

I always dreaded that my life would pass
Without any feeling of fulfilment
But when he told me
He didn’t have any goals
I felt alright.
I knew
Life would go alright.
This happened just yesterday, and was very existential…
