Message from Writer

Don’t worry if my poetry seems dark. By putting my dark thoughts into words I actually feel free of them so the darker the poem the more positive I probably feel after writing it.

This is how we are taught to measure childhood
As a series of birthdays that lead to the end
But the end of childhood is not eighteen years

Childhood ends when the world starts to fade
When the colours don’t seem so bright anymore and the clouds no longer resemble animals and things
Childhood ends when we no longer believe in miracles
When hope is no longer unconditional
And when people start to judge
Childhood ends when our knees are no longer grazed and when tears are filled with shame

It is not something that can be judged in minutes or days
Childhood ends with the illusion that all love sets us free
It is the loss of our innocence
And our realisation of unhappy endings
