slip on dress

April 13, 2021

on mornings when the sun woke up birds
was when she would slip on her dress
it was white, with small yellow flowers plotted all around it
it would flow when the wind blew just the slightest
making her seem as if she was a dancing fairy
and while she bird watched
i would stare at her in awe
hoping one day, i could wear it
even knowing i was too small

"can i wear it to bed mamaw?"

"not tonight dear, it'll slip off of you by the time you wake up"

but maybe now
that little slip on dress could fit
and i would dance around on the porch
watching as the birds wake up
to sing their alluring melodies
that pronounce it would be a happy day
to wear her slip on dress

Awwww wowww I love this!!! It's so cute how it's like exploring this one object and I love the dialogue in between, it gives so much variety to the poem and really threads a story. And I love how you said the flowers were "plotted"!
