April 10, 2021

the old grandfather clock in the corner strikes four,
drowsy and deprived, another shot of whiskey; i pour,
staggering my way out of bed, staring up to the moon,
hands, shaking, with, mind, racing, i fall to the floor,

netflix skips on to the next episode, radio out of tune,
falling asleep at 6am, awoken by nightmares at noon,
unwashed clothes shoved on, smelling of last week's beef,
sitting in the shower, fingers and toes resembling a prune,

screaming yet numb; paracetamol not working as pain relief,
denial, depression, anger, acceptance; i'm stuck in disbelief,
sick. of. hurting. yearning to just turn over to a new leaf,
unable to get up, too tired to brush my teeth; g/r/i/e/f.
I wrote this poem a while ago but decided to enter it here. Although this piece mentions "whiskey" I would just like to point out that I do not drink and do not condemn underage drinking. That line was for fictional use only. (:

Happy giggling <3

This is really quite a great piece. I love the pacing and rhythm of it. Perhaps it could benefit from more sensory details, as you have a lot of motion but not a ton of imagery. Oh, if you have the time, I'd really appreciate a review of my entry.
