I found this prompt and decided, just for fun, to find the last text I sent. this what it. If you're wondering why in the world that's my most recent text, you're probably right.

PROMPT: April Grab Bag

A 200-word story that starts with the last text I sent (by Ava Marie).

"My favorite orphan!" she says, throwing her arms around my shoulders. I'd squirm away, but I was told to be good. To put up with whatever they put me through.
How can I be your favorite orphan? I wonder. You've only known me for the last week. And what kind of person says that, anyway?
The woman pulls away. "What wrong, darlin'?" she asks.
"Nothing," I reply, lying around my over-sized front teeth.
"Aren't you happy to see me?" she asks, sticking her big green eyes right in front of my face.
"I am." I try to paste the happy smile she expects onto my face.
"Oh, I am so excited too!" the woman wraps one thick arm around my own bony shoulders. The motion is meant to be friendly, but all I can think about is how she's putting her scent on me like a dog marking its territory. "I know we're going to have the best of times!"
I bite the inside of my cheek to keep thoughts in.
"Now, I know we haven't known each other long but I assure you, everything'll be perfect!"
Inside, I am laughing. Doesn't she know how imperfect she's making my life?
