Message to Readers

My older brother is away for school and yesterday I was talking to him on Skype and I felt so bummed that I couldn't talk to him in person. So this is kind of inspired by that. Let me know what you think! :)

"Bennet, come say hi to Mummy! She wants to talk to you."

Bennet's hand froze on the plastic dump truck. He looked up.

"Mumma's here?"

Then he heard it. Her soft, echoing laugh.

He jumped up and ran to the kitchen, ignoring the little cars piercing his feet.  "Mumma!"

"Here he is!" Aunt Lucy thrust a glowing screen towards him, and suddenly Mumma's face was right there.

Bennet's smile flattened. "That's not Mumma. That's just your phone."

"Bennie. It's me."

"That's not real! That's not real, I want the real Mumma!"

He fled from the room, tears spilling down his face.

Awww! Making the story so simple really let the message shine through! "Her soft, echoing laugh. " was just the perfect description and made the ending all the more sad! and yes, I tutor kids and man, they're honestly so profound and blatant sometimes!

Omg, this is so sad! So true, tho. I moved a few years ago, and totally know the feeling of wishing you could see the "real person". :)
