Fourth of July

May 13, 2015

I see shattered shards of color, flying into the sky, sparklers like stars.

I hear pops and hisses, the applause of fireworks, my family’s laughter.

I feel the heat of the sparklers on my fingers, the cool breeze on my skin.

I smell cotton-smoke, fire and freshly cut grass.

I taste seasoning on steak, a cold glass of root beer, a smile on my lips.

I know, despite myself, another summer’s dying.

This really feels like a typical Fourth of July to me, and I love the language you use to describe the Fourth of July. I was hoping that you would read and review a piece I just published. The prompt is to write about your polar opposite, and I wrote a piece called "Monday." If you would review it, I would appreciate it so much!
