nans yellow towels

March 20, 2021

I’ve always loved the smell of nanas towels
They smelt sweet of spring
And soft like an unspoken sermon
It was so cozy wrapped around my bare scrawny body
It made me feel like i should whisper through the ebony strands
Of my water wrung hair
Still damp with calm Nan would curse
At my love for sodden strands
That hung over my shoulders and drip dots on my back
I’d lie on the floor and make a tent of my breath
The sun seeping in through minuscule openings
The hazy yellow of the towel stilled me
And i smiled
Then at my cunning and now at my childhood
A childhood born on an english hillside -  at a  waistline of happiness
Far away from the haggard breath and feud-filled faces that now haunt me

Wow! This was so moving and descriptive- a really incredible piece! I especially loved, "And soft like an unspoken sermon" that was just such a unique description! Amazing!
