She used to say that she saw ghosts dancing in the field. Milk-white silhouettes, delicate in the air as they moved, silent. She wore dresses at midnight, never afraid, cradled by the moonlight and the energy of her ancestors that bled through each sunset. Barefoot, she’d sit for hours, listening to the songs our ears could no longer hear, watching what our naked eyes could not see.

Her home resided within the souls she’d lost, the ones whose voices spoke her tongue and shared her hardships. She had never felt kin to those in the world she was bound to.
