Never Again

March 8, 2021

We are the generation
That will fight for those we have lost.
As the system continues to make us forget
We remember.
We remember the bullets that carve the black skins
The struggle of those who migrate and wander
The unjust ribbons that tie young girls
The chokehold of oppression
And the blood dripping from the daily news.

But fear cannot shrink us to submission
We shall never bound to blood and violence
Our interwoven hands persevere
And flower with the courage of hundreds of fighters.

We've been told to sit down
Don’t look them in the eyes.
They say we're too young to understand
Well, I promise you we understand

We will never kneel during anthems that echo with injustice
We will stand for what's right
Because we are not afraid to fight
We are never afraid to rise.

The clock is ticking
But never again.

Wow I love this! it's so poetic and powerful- the ending is perfect as well. This, "We remember the bullets that carve the black skins" was just so eloquently worded and really important!
