Marcus Brutus

March 5, 2021

my class and I
just finished reading
Julius Caesar.
My teacher
was telling us
about the upcoming test
and asked us
was Marcus Brutus
a tragic hero?
we said
yes, he was.
but what is his flaw?
I said
too gullible.
that's kind of
he believes Cassius
and Caesar's ghost when it says Brutus will die
and lets Antony speak to the mob.
but now I think
it is really
too honorable.
Brutus is an honorable man,
says Antony
but he is right.
Brutus believes Cassius
because Cassius is a friend.
he lets Antony speak
because he thinks Antony will see him as right.
he chooses to die
because of his grief
and because his mission was over.
he only kills Caesar
because he thought it right.
maybe it was right
maybe Caesar would have ruined Rome
more than it was already ruined.
perhaps Brutus wasn't a tragic hero
but a necessary evil.

This piece is amazing!! You are so talented. I really love your word choice and meaningful metaphors in it. You really have so much talent; I cannot wait to see what you write next.
