i'm not sure how to feel about the title, since what i'm talking about is actually really naturally occurring. any thoughts/suggestions?

self light of the eye

March 2, 2021

laying in bed sometimes, the night crackles behind her eyes.
the things she sees used to scare her,
always in that place between sleep and un-awake,
bright swirls of color dance on the inside of her eyelids.
this is what she imagines synesthesia would be like.
only certain colors surface in the dark of her mind.
never deep, never green, never pleasing.
it's most often magenta which makes its way across her blurry vision,
the bright purple-pink she always used to hate choosing from the crayon box in third grade,
now she wonders if this was the reason.
cyan too, another hatred which floats in circled patterns, dialating.
blurry isn't the word, since "blurry" means "fuzzy," not grossly pixelated.
she remembers being afraid of stripes of purple and yellow,
they never had a pattern, never controlled, never predicted.
those nights when colors flash behind her eyelids, it keeps her awake.
she wonders if this is anything similar to psychedelics.
she'll never need drugs, music does something better,
the rise and fall of beats remind her of the colors.
close your eyes and see magenta fall toward the lyrics.
when the rainbow fades away, she imagines it the way she wishes it was:
pastel and cotton-candy colored, light enough to touch.
the songs are temporary antidotes for the constricting swirls in her eyes,
they've never been gentle with their movement, yet
they never stay for too long, never at anything but night.
i've never really written in this longer-line style. kinda like it but we'll see. i realized as i was typing that this would be an answer for the one of the prompts in february (what do you see when you close your eyes? is that it?) but whatever, i kind of missed that one lol. and yes, this is true. i believe it's a kind of "enhanced entoptic phenomena" referred to in the article i read as "self light of the eye." i'm really curious to see if any of you do or don't experience this as well. i never really knew that some people didn't get this. it doesn't happen as much as when i was younger, and it used to scare me because i couldn't tell if i was dreaming or not. it's much better now, since i know what actually goes on to some extent haha.

Re: Oki! So you hit continue writing like normal. Then you edit the title how you like and hit save title. But then instead of saving the whole piece and publishing it, just go to a different page (any page). When you go back to the piece, the title will be changed without any comments/likes being lost.

Re: Aw thank you! I'm really glad you like it. ^u^ /giddy
Oh you're welcome. :) I'm not sure if you're aware that you can change a title without making a whole new version of the piece without all the previous likes and comments...? I can help you with that if you're not. /tentative

The title is intriguing, but I see why you'd want to change it. I think "self light of the eye" could actually work really well as its an unfamiliar term that still hints at what the piece is about.

Wow this is amazing! I was blown away from very first line. Your diction and simple imagery are wonderful.

This happens to me too! I don't think it's quite synesthesia, but certain songs and people have colors to me, like I can see all of my friends as a different color. This piece is so lovely btw! The imagery is fantastic! :)
