little things

February 23, 2021

small feet pattering across tile floor,
snow dancing to the ground,
a sense of calmness; safe and sound,
these are the little things
but they have the biggest influence

songs being hummed as they play on the car radio,
a simple doll attached to small hands,
bringing happiness to an adored young girl,
running through a world of sparkling lights,
tasting the sweetness of the air around us

the little things we miss and love
talking last night’s game at breakfast,
traveling to a nearby sandy beach,
celebrating Thanksgiving with family,
playing tug-of-war with an eager puppy

every laugh, every smile, now a photograph
defying the odds with time forever frozen
a beautiful memory, a perfect second
stuck in our heads for as long as we’re living
so we can think back as if it were that 365-day calendar again

they’re the little things
we reminisce on a casual lazy weekend,
when we reunite with an old friend,
or in the midst of the night
as our minds wander while we remain still in our beds

as the autumn wind paints our hopeful future
it reminds us of our past with the colors of the twilight
a simple hello, a lasting goodbye
the significant moments, the most memorable ones are those that are little
I don’t know how else to put it

Wow!! This was sooo stunning! The whole piece moved me and it made me feel so unexplainably happy! It was so sweet and the ending (yes I'm using this again) was so powerful- it just brought out even more of the humanity within this piece! I don't even know if I can pinpoint a favourite line because all of it was so happy but I really do like this one, "playing tug-of-war with an eager puppy" because I can imagine that so clearly- ooh wait, also the first paragraph, that was my absolute FAVOURITE! It was just so beautiful and really vivid! RE: omg awwww thank you so so so much!! Your comment was sooo super sweet and you were so specific which is always the best! And awwww, thank you so much again!! Have the best day!! :))

This is so lovely! Such relatable and special words. If you would like to review one of my songs, I would love more reviews on mine called 'butterfly sadness,' 'gatekeeper,' and 'motif.' Much love!
