Eremurus- a flower native to eastern Europe and temperate Asia; aka foxtail lily or desert candle; often compared to a long spike
the flower is unlike any other and the word infatuates the tongue (or at least mine)

reckless heart

January 21, 2021

The heart of my being
it clings
to the hope
one day,
maybe I’d get to breathe
in the air through my
reckless self
my reckless lungs
let my reckless heart
beat bold
oxygen flows
passed adrenaline
rushes defiance
my reckless fingertips
fold only to fight
my reckless fights
my reckless fights
pick your battles
I’ll make reckless choices
I’ll fight
reckless fights
run a
reckless race
sprint between
and love
and pride
and love
and I’ll fight
my reckless fight
to quell
my reckless heart

Re: Funny story... Two days before Amanda Gorman recited at the inauguration (did I spell that right?), I tried to show my mother something she said in a WtW interview, but we were leaving the house and in a rush and she was too busy to read it. Then two days later, she says she wants to show my sister and I a poem by this young poet who performed at the inauguration. I was like "what's her name?" and Mum was like "I think... something-or-other Gorman?". She was so shocked that I had actually been looking at Amanda Gorman's work two days previous.
Also, this is a really, really great piece!
