Maybe,

if life was to be loved,

and to be loved was to be alive,

you and I would have had the time to scour the skies for stars

brighter and older and more beautiful

than we could ever be.

Maybe we would have searched forever.

Maybe that could have saved us.

Forever would never be long enough, anyway.
