stare at street cat. stare at underbelly of expensive car. light marlboro and keep smoke lidded inside mouth. lounge by footpath. dabble suit in pooled rainwater. trail tie over shoeprint like preschool hand on grocery aisle. curb so lonely, so wrought with grief. moonlight, stale with stench of alcohol under clouded teeth.
wait, wait, wait. nothing more to do, ever, than wait. passersby dwindle. knowing, pitying looks. perhaps, been here too. waiting.
curb still endures. seedy whispers. tinted cadillac windows. dying sparks of cigarette butts. sing-song clinking of beer cans. stuck to boot like spat gum. waiting.

(b) recklessness of living

the fragility of hearts is riveting, and i have always enjoyed breaking them.
