Melting Milkshakes, Fluorescents, and Cafeteria Fries

January 11, 2021

Crowded hallway, these fluorescents are hurting my eyes
Meet me by the playground
This town doesn't have much to do
But I'd sure like to go to the mall with you
Melting milkshakes, overdone fries
This school makes me claustrophobic
But you're a breath of fresh air
The monkey bars' handles are rusted
Callouses on my fingers and new Converse
You're a different league than me
So walk on by one more time
Golden hair, you make those glasses work
Basketball boy with time to waste
Maybe I'll see you at a dance sometime
But probably not
Vape smoke clouds the bathrooms
They were never too clean anyways
Braces off, chapstick in the locker rooms
Who's who of high school
Spin that bottle my way one of these days
Who's up for bad poetry and chocolate milkshakes?

honestly, that was a piece of work right there. You told a story without explaining at all. That's some talent right there:)

i wouldn't call it bad poetry; any poetry that expresses emotion is worth reading to me. i liked how you focused on the ordinary things that mean so much. daily little acts, places, events. i get a song vibe from this as well as a classic high school movie
i loved the "so walk on by one more time" and the last line especially
