"My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird--
equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand."
- "Messenger", Mary Oliver

"And I will show that nothing can happen more beautiful than death,
And I will thread a thread through my poems that time and event are compact,
And that all the things of the universe are perfect miracles, each as profound as any."

i'm sorry for kissing you in my dreams
our love is bitter when masked with confusion and
the chaos of contact, the way my eyes stray to you
and how you don't seem to recognize me. someone once said
dreams are the fulfillment of a wish but i wasn't wishing for you to forget
how to love me. so i pull you closer, try to make you remember,
because maybe if i say the right things, maybe if i move in the right ways,
you'll come back to me. so i kissed you.
you tasted like grapefruit on my tongue,
sweet but sour on the edges of my throat
and i poured honey over your skin, dripping sweet and
sticky with love [lust]. and it was no mistake that the sun
broke through the clouds as our lips touched, but
even dreaming couldn't make it feel real.
i romanticized our romance, turned our words into a poem
and thrust it out for the world to see, but
i forgot to tuck them into the pocket next to my heart and
you dissolved into faded photographs and sunbeams and i
was left behind.
i can still feel you, but your aftertaste is sour and
your skin has grown cold. i'm sorry for kissing you in my dreams
because now i'm afraid to wake up without you.
Thank you to Samina, for her wonderful prompt and piece "An apology for kissing you in my dreams"! :) This isn't nearly as good, but I enjoyed writing it. I missed day one, but I hope to use each of the following prompts. This poem was based off of a real dream.

Hope you enjoyed this! Love you all <333

re: i don't actually think you missed it :) you were one of the first people who commented—i saw it in the morning, bloodshot eyes and all, and i smiled. so thank you for that. oh and then i made some changes and republished so maybe that's why. anyway, i'm doing much better now :) how are you? <3

re: ah, it's good to have someone who understands :) and yeah, i'm not sure how realistic it is to actually update my pronouns every single time they change (i actually wasn't sure that anyone would notice it at all!) but i'm giving it a go.

re: aw, i'm glad i could make you smile. that, in turn, made me smile!
and when it comes to my own pronouns, it really fluctuates by the month (i would say "day," but i don't think that's entirely accurate.) i'm always okay with they/them pronouns, but i go through times when i'm also okay with she/her. i'm going to be updating my bio accordingly, though, so really, whatever is on there is totally good to be used!

i was going to come back and comment on this, but i forgot!
this piece is absolutely gorgeous. "you tasted like grapefruit on my tongue,/sweet but sour on the edges of my throat" i mean -- you're a goddex, i swear. your use of adjectives having to do with taste really did it for me; they were fantastic.
re: of course it wasn't an intrusion to read that piece! i published it to be read. it does make me happy that you felt that personal level to it, though, because i really tried to make that come through. love you too!
