sanguine regret

December 1, 2020

and i feel guilty for painting you a villain.
my words drip scarlet,
declaring me a liar,
for withholding the truth was never a lesser sin.

i saw the blood of generations
drowning you in agony.
you shut them out, shut all of us out.
which one of us paid the price?

forgiving is painful, and forgetting is harder.
you did neither, but i never cared.
i gave you roses worth more than rubies
and watered them with tears ofmy  empathy.

and it hurts me now because i still care for you,
but "hurt people hurt people",
and your apathy turned crimson
as it wounded me.
Yes, this is about Red.

Note: Some alternate definitions of sanguine are "(in old physiology) having blood as the predominating humor and consequently being ruddy-faced, cheerful, etc." "bloody; sanguinary" "blood-red; red".

this is incredible. painful and agonized with great imagery.
re: ah, of course. but i feel like you're insulting my precious cheesecake.

re: ahahaha i think I see hints of my style there (though tbh, not exactly certain what constitutes my writing style XD)
Yeah, at one point you called one of the parts an "episode" and I took it and ran :D
aw, I'm so honored you've shared my stories with others, even if said people do have cheesecake-attention-spans XD

Re: Thanks! I definitely understand the struggle of hating english classes when they force you to write in a way you don't want to. That absolutely drives me crazy!
Hmm, I guess it's not really a theater kid thing. I think for me, theater and writing are tied together very closely, because you learn a lot of skills from each that are applicable to the other(i.e. character development).

I love all the symbolism in here. And the connotations of the color red in every single line!

stellar writing, as always! So many great lines is this poem, but I think my favorite is "forgiving is painful, and forgetting is harder".... I dunno, just really resonated with me. is it weird that I can really relate to this piece?

Re: thank you, Blue. It helps to know I’ve got a friend who knows what I’m going through. Thank you so much for being here for me. It’s hard to love people though.... even if it’s not THAT kind of love.

I LOVE how you included different shades of red in here, so that without mentioning the color itself, the poem just screamed "red". stunning, powerful work here! :)

ahh this is so raw and powerful " i gave you roses worth more than rubies
and watered them with tears ofmy empathy." i love the slight alliteration and the imagery and the layers it holds, its so relatable.
