i write to acknowledge myself

PROMPT: Why I Write

i hear eerie voices in the middle of the night,
i see faceless figures at noon moving with the wind
every time i stare at the window of my room,
i often forget who i am when i judge every
scratch of mine in the plain mirror glued on
my cupboard/

thus, i write to remember that i too am a human
longing for warmth and peace, i write to bring
an end to the turmoil cutting my insides into pieces/
i feel poisoned on days when lumps of unspoken words
take shelter in my narrow neck, i feel uptight when
my brown leather diary gives no sign of its occurrence,
i feel worried like i lost someone beloved/

it's risky to write down each syllable in the
dusky pages which with time would get lost
in the cartons under my bed and that is why
i write/ i write to remember that i am also
composition of the atoms with which
this land was made/ i write verses to
memorize that my skin is unworthy of
sheltering deep bruises/

i write to remember how the power of these
mere letters could boost my morale on days
when my heart beats fail to match the number
of hiccups, i take in an hour-long crying session/
my loneliness crafts faces and voices, which often
scare me in the midnight or in the noons, so, i write
for them or maybe to them, small notes acknowledging
their presence, how they slowly make me fearless and strong/

i write to remember myself,
i write to acknowledge the turmoils which tore me
but soon brought me back to the shore, i write rumors my
best-friend spreads about me, i write all the insignificant
facts and incidents which build me up. i write to
acknowledge my presence//

i can't picture a better reason to write, personally. also, i'd like to welcome you to wtw! i can't wait to see more of your work, it looks wonderful! a little pro tip, if you recive any comments you'd like to reply to you have to go to the person's most recent piece and comment on there so they receive a notification... it's quite annoying but we make it work <3
