Mmmmm... This isn't nearly as good as any of the other pieces, but... Idk what else to say. XD

My best friend hides behind a facade

November 9, 2020

My best friend hides in a world of her own creation,
she longs for a place where she doesn't have to be anything for anyone.
Somewhere where she knows just being herself is good enough for everyone.

My best friend spends her life pretending to be something she isn't,
Someone happier and smarter and better,
Someone that won't let the people around her down.

I know my best friend longs for communication.
A place where she doesn't feel like a burden.
Somewhere that she isn't constantly wondering if they only spend time with her to be nice.

My best friend constantly is asking if that question.
Are they just being nice?
Because she wouldn't choose herself to spend time with either.

My best friend constantly wonders if she's being judged,
She pretends to laugh in the face of sorrow,
But when she's alone, she cries because being alone is terrifying.

And in the end, my best friend still puts on a smile.
Because that's all she really know how to do;
Smile to cover up the hurt, laugh to cover up the tears.
If your reading this, you have probably already seen the other great pieces like this... :) Originally based off of poetri's prompt My best friend Riley gets sad sometimes.
Hope you liked this... it was really interesting to write.

noooo this is amazinggg!!! soo so so relatable (more than i would like...cause it's hard to make your life an elaborate act of a giant play in which your audience is everyone around you, and you hafta be happy 24/7) anyway i hope you're having an amazing dayyyy <3 all the best

aww, this is...I don't even know how to describe it. It's just so full of emotion, and you told her story in a way only a best friend could. Like a lot of people in the comments, I too found this relatable. Teenager's live are really complex aren't they?
Re: Aw, glad you liked it! And yes, I'm reading Mistborn. Only about ten pages in, but I've read a few other Sanderson books, so I'm really excited to read it! I definitely know that feeling where you just want to spill everything about the plot. Hang in there, I'll do my best to finish the book quickly!

I relate to this way more than I wish I did. Also, I just now realized that the numbers in your username were the first digits of pi (cause I'm super observant like that).

Love it! It's so fun to read everyone's pieces and learn more about them. I feel like you're definitely someone I'd be friends with irl and i love the mix of soft, subtle metaphors and straightforward "telling it like it is" this poem balances perfectly. All the best, dear :)
