It isn't really a poem, but it's something.

A tin watch

November 5, 2020

My Grandfather died when I was 16,
I always thought I knew everything about him,
But as soon as he was gone I wanted to know him better,
Isn't it strange that humans want things they can't have;

I wasn't allowed to attend his funeral because,
I was  in Germany with my Literature class when it happened,
All I have to remember him by is a little tin watch that he'd made when he was a little boy,
It doesn't even work, it just sits on my shelf as a reminder to cry;
The watch came with a riddle,
 What we hate, what we want, what flies by, the answer is_____,
My Grandfather was always making up these riddles and I had solved this one a long time ago,
The answer was time;
Too simple of a word to mean anything,
But not to simple to be a reminder of things lost at the cruel hands of time,
Whom we need,
But wish we did not;

Sometimes I search the tin watch for anything else,
Anything that my Grandfather left me a note, another riddle, a photo,
But I never found anything and I can't stop wondering why,
He was always mysterious.

    Replying: Yeah, as you probably guessed, I know how it feels too. Especially about missing them, but at the same time being furious at them. Thanks for the comment, by the way!
