FREE WRITING

tomorrow your nation will choose its leaders
sometimes the world terrifies you as it locks
its fingers around your throat and squeezes
knocks your breath out of your lungs and begs
from you to scream they say it’s delicious
when you scream sometimes the tremors
rattle your skin and bones this is a valley of
dry bones wake you walk with tongues of
fire hovering above your head try to stamp it
out fear what they’ll do to you if they see how
bright you burn hide your lamp conceal its
light and then look away in your shame
don’t you dare look at him like this hidden and
ashamed hasn’t he freed you from the world?
indeed he has overcome the world you need
not fear lift up your head and face tomorrow
with flames undying don’t be afraid I am
with you always tomorrow your elders will
cast their ballots and watch as the nation makes
its choice and yet you stand tall and unafraid
face the world and do not flinch if God is for us
then who can be against us? already the
outcome is decided as it has been since
before the beginning of time you’ve been
chosen as his little one and he’ll lead you
through the fire until you finally reach home

Hey, y'all. (Just kidding, I'm not Southern at all.)
Calling all Christians in the USA:
The election is coming up tomorrow, and I've seen some of you all expressing your fears. But I think something we continually ought to remember, whether Democrat or Republican, is that the outcome of this election has ultimately already been decided. Our God will choose for us the leader he desires to achieve his purposes (whether that be Trump or Biden; I know, hard to believe he could use either one to accomplish his will). If we take a look at the character of God, then we can rest assured knowing that he is in full control of this situation and will work all things for our own good (and by that, I mean our salvation, not necessarily our desires for the here and now). Keep your heads up, everyone, and rest in the knowledge that God is good and knows exactly what he's doing.

i'm not christian, but yyour poem really resonated with me! wonderful imagery and i kinda feel the same (sans god part, but that's ok). anyway, i'm hoping and hoping and thank you for this poem.... (i don't really pray unless at my synagogue, but yeah). sigh. nervous still...<3
