The kind that every girl had in elementary school. the kind you made bracelets with. the kind that every best friend made their best friend. The kind where you would get a chorus of "oohhhhhhhs" if you gave one to a boy

                            They came in a box.
                            you could use the loom
                            or your fingers.
                                                                    I'd always use my loom...

                                writing this, my fingers feel
the vague ache of my circulation
being cut off, the bands too tight on
                                                           my large fingers.

I think of how all the bracelets were so similarly...

                they were                D I F F E R E N T                    colors, sizes, patterns, designs

They were all unique in their own way,
                                                                                                                                        but still... bracelets.
                                                                                                                                                 Still the same.

I went through this phase several times. I did the fishtail, single loop,
raindrop, twisty twisty, rainbow, team spirit. I gave them to every one,
forcing my family members to pick a color. These rubber bands are part
of me, figuratively and realistically... I might have accidently swallowed one.
These colorful circles are part of my childhood.

I watch the girls make their bracelets, fighting over the colors. I teach them
what I know. I show them how to fishtail with your fingertips. I laugh with
them as our fingers turn numb and purple. I smile as they figure out how to do it. I                                                      congratulate them as they loop the bands around the clip. The bracelet is finished.
I thank them as a bracelet is put on my wrist.

Then, I think about how much I've grown up.
I don't know about the title, but I loved writing this. Nostalgia makes for great writing. Not sure how great this is though. Now, if you'll excuse me... I have ten pounds of blush to take off my eyelids(not my doing). Yeah, kids are great.

Yes, I remember when this was a trend (though I'm homeschooled so I didn't really get into it). I love the nostalgia here—you are so right, autumn is that time.

Yessss, I begged my mom to give me the box with all the little rainbow bands, and still have around 14 under my bed. Those were the days...
Replying- I get used to it, seven-eight months does that to ya. I have two brothers too (twins) my friend told me she could tolerate them for a couple hours, but could never live with them. Four boys in my house....woah that'd be a mess, well depending on their ages, older brothers never seemed so bad. Of course, who am I to say.

Flashbacks, ah, yes the loom! That was the trend haha, I remembering being so jealous of anyone with the complicated loom boxes. This is beautifully written, I got so much nostalgia from reading it :))
The ending... literal chills, it was such an elegant and simple way to wrap up it all up, with the slightest touch of sadness. Amazing writing <3
On a totally different note, I am dying to know how the blush happened, and am laughing because I've definitely had some similar experiences :D

Oh my GODS! I remember in 2nd grade I begged my mom t buy me that huge box with all the sections so I could organize all my rubber bands. I brought it to school every day; it was my pride and joy. This brought back a LOT of memories XD

yes, i remember this! childhood. flashbacks. dang. and this formatting is wonderful and enhanced the poem. i think i still have some rubber bands somewhere... i used to think those were so cool. i wanted to make all the fancy ones, but i only knew regular, fishtail, and inverse fishtail. for some reason, i vaguely remember a guy might have given me one... idk.
love your new username and profile pic, btw. those roses are so... autumnal. warm and a little earthy.
