Anybody remember when we were young?
When the way laundry dried was when it was hung
When we sang lyrics to songs without knowing what they meant
And a Saturday playing outside was a Saturday well-spent
Everyone wanted the Sketchers that lit up
And we played sticks waiting for our parents to pick us up
We didn’t know what Netflix was
And the answer we hated was “because”
We had no phones to text each other on
We had no social media to spend hours on
Our backpacks were wider than our shoulders
And the red balls outside Target were big as boulders
The good old days when nine-thirty was late
And in class all we learned was writing the date
We made our parents macaroni necklaces for holidays
And the best days of the week were saturdays
When our parents arranged our playdates
And artwork was all we’d create
Justice and Target was where we shopped
And we wore bright tanks under crop tops
2000’s babies unite
We are the last soldiers in the fight
We are stronger together
And we can face whatever
