on a poem binge.

October 28, 2020

dad beeps
the worn horn
of his
vw bug
the headlights
are tilted
the lens
of the right one
is cracked
the hood's
been keyed
and the passenger's
sits loosely
on its hinges
dad hands me
the keys
this time around

and off we go
onto route 66
the world is
mine today.

I love the vintage feel here! The car almost seems like a character in itself. This poem feels like a coming-of-age story.
Re: thanks so much for your comment! I'm glad I'm able to write characters that come alive to people; that means a lot to me as a writer.
