Message to Readers

I've been a bit inactive lately, between life and exams and focusing on my (what will hopefully become a) novel.
Please read and enjoy - as always, feedback is appreciated so much!

Let's start a revolution...
- recycle as much as you can
- where possible, avoid using the car. Walking, cycling and using public transport are more sustainable options :)
- use Ecosia instead of Google as your browser (I recently converted and it's great - almost the same as the bigger companies, but their profits go towards planting trees! And, if you sign in, it keeps count of how many searches you've made so you can work out how many trees that will have planted :))
- there are so many other simple ways to help save the planet... but we need our governments and big companies to make an effort too.

the human race.
infinitely frustrating
always on hand
to make a bad decision
or three

destroyer of the planet
the only species
to ruin its own home

the air it breathes
the land on which it lives
setting fire
to the very things it needs most to survive

a species of mistakes.
but also a species of fixers

our ancestors built civilisations
and started revolutions
and made our world the one it is today
        the good and the bad

don’t we have the power to shape
our tomorrows?

a race of immense stupidity
and resounding genius
of war
and of hope

when all the people are shut away
sheltering for their own safety
and their leaders can’t seem to control
        not surprising, really
the world is taken back to its roots
back to the days before
busyness and stress
took over

back to family
back to earth

and the people
they muse and they consider
why is this life better than
what came before?

tomorrow brings a new dawn
an age of innovation
an age of salvation
an age to thrive

and as humanity reappears from its hideout
crawling into the new normal
whispers float through the air

"it’s time to start a revolution"

Hopefully (fingers crossed!) this will soon become part of a poetry collection that I'm working on, based around the climate crisis, which is something that I'm super passionate about and that we desperately need to change. Click the link to read my other poem about it :)

Wow, I really love your poems!! I love that you create a rhythm and I really like the ending! Also, this is a topic that one cannot write/talk about enough because it's so frustrating.. But I love that you made it hopeful!

I totally agree! With all the traffic in this world, we should slow down and take some moments to realize everything we're doing to the Earth. Also the title made me think of this really bad joke I'd tell all my friends.
So basically someone says, "Oh no, we must save humanity!"
And someone else takes a huge manatee out of the water in order to save it from drowning
Ironically, this person doesn't save the huge manatee, as manatees are sea animals.
