Why My Past Self and I Are No Longer Speaking

October 8, 2020

PROMPT: All Talk

    Who is this?
You! From August 2019. I was getting kind of nervous about the upcoming school year, so I thought, why not call you and ask how it went?
    Heh-heh... you sure about this?
    Why wouldn't I be? You're from October 2020, right?
So, how'd the school year go? Super homework heavy?
Sort of. In the spring the teachers went with a... different teaching style.
    Yeah? What?
WHAT? You don't even go to an online school!
Yeah, well, everyone did once everything shut down. Most people, including me, are still going to school online now.
    What happened?
You wouldn't believe me.
Come on. I called the future for answers. I want answers.
    Just spit it out!
Well, mid-March, everything shut down. School, restaurants, gyms, everything. People started hoarding toilet paper. It was mayhem. All because of a deadly virus--- COVID-19.
I was pretty sure it'd be over by the summer. Nope. The fall, then. Nope. It's October and I'm still wearing a mask everywhere and doing class over Zoom six hours a day.
So. That's the future.
    What? You're the one who---
I know it's hard to believe, but it's true.
    Hello? Are you there?
What have I done?
A phone call with me now and 2019 me.

hahaha: this was humorous:) I really enjoyed reading it, especially at the lines from, "Come on. I called the future for answers...." you show the frustration due to this pandemic clearly and in the funniest hints.

editing issue: WHAT? You don't even go to an online school! ... don't*... should it be this word?

I love this piece! Not only is it hilarious, but it touches on some really deep concepts, like the way the pandemic has changed our lives in a way that nobody would have expected!

THIS IS HILARIOUS!!!! XD. "Is this a prank call?" I totally feel that XD. Luckily, I never had to do Zoom classes. My teachers just recorded the lessons and we watched whenever we wanted..

Brilliant idea! Comical in a way but also too real, almost a gut-punch.
