I wouldn't need a second chance

leave everything behind to follow you
watch the rising sun and forget
to care about anything else
we, we are something new

reach up to you, you are my muse
filling my head with all that you are
it's not enough just to dance in the moonlight
you must also love the small moments

Footnotes

The title and the repeating line are lyrics in a song called "Bright Lights and Cityscapes" by Sara Barielles. It is one of my favorite songs EVER and if nothing else, please listen to it. seriously. it might not be your style of music--but if it is, you've found a new favorite song. I've been wanting to write a piece inspired by it for a very long time, and the prompt about epigraphs, well... prompted me :) I hope you like it!

Re: I don't think I've listened to ALL of her songs, as I usually get stuck on my favorites (I take obsessions seriously), but I've never heard a song of hers I didn't like. She's a master of her craft.

Re: Well I'm basic, so Gravity is definitely my favorite, with Between the Lines, Chasing the Sun, Brave, and She Used to be Mine close behind. One of the cool things about her for me is that her songs fit my voice like perfectly, so they're an absolute JOY to sing.

Re: Yes I love her! I listened to Manhattan for like 7 hours the other day because I couldn't sleep (I'm literally not even exaggerating) (I only got an hour of sleep that night XD).

Ah! I don't know if your muse for the poem (the one who gives you hope again) is the song or a real person, but it's BeAuTiFuL. You've done a marvelous job with this :)
And I listened to the song and it made me feel all safe and warm and fuzzy, so I am now going to get up and wrap myself up in a soft blanket. (thank you for a wonderful song suggestion!)
