Don’t Exit So Painfully

FREE WRITING

40
as i meet new people new friends start to blossom

though i only seek the person who can keep my secrets within

therefore i grasp those moonlit strands of friendship oh so gently

so that when they are yanked away from my outstretched hand

they don’t burn these calloused fingers

i can watch another person exit

and it won’t happen so painfully

Hi

i wrote this later than I usually write poetry it’s kind of different writing at night XD

It's a lot quieter writing during the night! Also, kind of lonely...

Poetry is definitely not my strong suit. However, it is yours. You might become the next Robert Frost!

Wow. This is so painfully true. I love the imagery, it really conveys this feeling well. I love the title too. Great job!

This poem is so beautiful, I felt my heart snap as I thought of all the times some friend exited my life just like that.

    This is truly breathtaking!

That, my friend, is heart wrenching, yet so relatable. The moon was a perfect analogy for friend ship: it waxes, it wanes, and it will disappear altogether. Excellently done!

Re: ahhhh okay...and yes, I felt that. After hearing it once, I literally went to my guitar to see if my fingers could make pretty music too (maybe if I practice enough, I'll be able to do it...but that also requires me to apply myself...so we'll see what happens)

    So heartbreaking and relatable.
"therefore i grasp those moonlit strands of friendship oh so gently/so that when they are yanked away from my outstretched hand/they don’t burn these calloused fingers" — the image here is beautifully written. I love the emotion that it conveys, and that the whole piece conveys.
You did such a good job with this poem!

Replying: Thanks for the confidence boost. :) I mostly write for myself anyway, so...if I ever feel like I need to give up for myself, that's what I'll do. But in the meantime, I'll just watch you write from afar and sometimes pop in to remind you how AMAZING you are. <3

    Re: BAHAHAHA
okay, so um one weird thing is that I like songs with upbeat melodies but surprisingly sad lyrics/stories behind them. A good example of this is "I Walked These Streets In November" by Caroline Manning....what's your music taste like? do you have a favorite song? (I find that I never love a song for long, so I tell people that I have a song-of-the-day and go from there lol)

This is achingly lovely. It prompts a lot of self-reflection, at least for me (I'm probs too trusting lol).

Wow, love this! And I can definitely relate! I have a lot of friends, and I'm very open, but to only a few do I disclose my secrets and the desires of my heart. <3

The emotions that I feel as I unwrap your amazing imagery is overwhelming, let me tell ya. "Those moonlit strands of friendship." Sir. That is Gorgeous. And the idea that if/when these new friends leave or are snatched away, their beauty will burn you....gosh, I've never loved an idea so much! *sending sweet, golden boba vibes your way*
