from inside the flames, it looks like the world's on fire

September 12, 2020

daylight grows like a weed
the night squeezes its eyes and
broadens into corrupt morning
i get up and someone threw a sheet
over the sky's corpse
morning shadows peeled onto the floor
car engines itch nervously on the empty streets
waiting in a landscape holding its breath
and i hear faces outside the windows
if i listen, it burns
happy doomsday, the sky was literally orange yesterday and the sun was blotted out by smoke so it looked and felt like 3AM the whole day. the air quality isn't actually that bad, i'm totally fine, it was just weirdly cold and now my sleep schedule and mood are messed up. but... you know... i guess at least we all know the baby's gender now...

replying: thank you so much! and you're not the only one, don't worry. i could've sworn the same, but i must've accidentally unfollowed you at some point :( will fix that right away, though <3

i'm late but i remember seeing this on the news and it seemed almost... dystopian. kinda scary, really.
"and i hear faces outside the windows / if i listen, it burns" i love that line. it's such a strong ending to a brilliantly vivid poem.

ahh it's so trippy to see pictures of those red/orange skies. at first i had a hard time believing they weren't edited bc it just looks so bad. hope y'all are all okay <3

i have no idea how you do it. you sort of show the beautiful side to these horrors with your imagery. completely captivating!

It's super smoky here too even though the fires are pretty far away. Everything's so weirdly ominous, the sky, the air, the temperature, the amount of light. The imagery in your poem is amazing though, even without the context.
