"Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle." - Lewis Carroll

oh, to live with friends in a renovated french castle with a labyrinth

i write mediocre poetry about love and other lies

Message to Readers

I don't usually write poetry this long or in this specific style (separated into chunks like this), so let me know what you think. Thanks as always! <3

x i write poetry in the dark x

September 4, 2020

i write poetry in the dark
so the light cannot judge
the secrets i withhold from myself

i write poetry in the dark, because
the brilliance of today's minds
are dampened by constraints of the modern world
we watch friends poison themselves
with second-hand smoke and broken promises
and pretend it helps them heal
you always restrained yourself
i guess we're similar in that way

i write poetry in the dark
so the light cannot tell me how
i have made flaws in the mosaic of my outlook
and i can continue dancing with false pretenses
with a smile on my face

i write poetry in the dark
so i don't shackle myself
to the person everyone wants me to be
so my feelings can make their grand entrance
all over the page

i write poetry in the dark
because frankly i worry
that in the light i would notice how much
i miss you
No, I don't l i t e r a l l y write poetry in the dark. (It's a metaphor.) I don't know if I made that clear enough here, so if I didn't, I'll ensure it's clear in the footnotes.
