I've decided to do a small series, since I am vacationing on the Apostle Islands, on Lake Superior. I want to write a piece a day. This is the first piece! Keep an eye out for the next ones <3
i. sand scrapes my feet
as the Freshwater Sea
rises and falls before us
the sky frothing around my toes
numbs ny skin and
drags me in
leading me in a steady dance
—one two, one two— with the waves
breathe it in and exhale the breeze
that whisks through our veins
look—
the sky and the water
touch—
there, beyond the horizon
and it never
stops
the endless crashing and sighing of
Mother Nature herself
not a moment passes
where I don't feel
the wind in my hair and the waves at my feet and
the life in my chest
ii. see the moon begin to glow
above the frothy
whitecaps
see them crest and fall, swell and sink
watch the clouds deepen until
shadows cover the sky
pick your way across the rocks
(don't bother trying to stay dry)
and watch the dying sun
glisten off of whispering grasses
filter through the pine needles
sending her goodbye to us all
as the moon ascends
to the throne
light the gas lanterns and
feel the heat
as shadows rise and fall
mimicking the great waves
only feet away
give yourself to the ebony sky
before you close your eyes
wrap yourself with the curtain of nightfall
and smile to me as the wind whispers
goodnight

reply: i hope that isn't how i came across! i didn't mean it as "my word" per se, but more of, uhm, a phase i'm outgrowing? i don't quite know how to phrase it, but it's like that feeling when you know you have to move on soon--does that make sense? but i completely agree, the world cannot belong to one person!! sorry for the confusion!
Replying: That's impressive and about normal here for July and August. I was just making sure you weren't talking about like 83 degrees or something XD.
This piece is so gloriously immersive and I am living *for* it and *in* it. Also, I guess this means you live in second Canada - I mean - Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Michigan. Shooee it's cold up there.

Wow, this is so beautiful! I can imagine myself there right now even if I’m in another country. Your writing is really impressive!
