Petrichor is the earthy and fragrant smell of rain on dry, thirsty soil. It's derived from a pair of chemical reactions - the secretion of plant oils during parched and brittle dry periods, and the release of chemicals produced by actinomycetes. Together, they combine and create that nostalgically aromatic scent when rain sweeps the ground.

I agree with haunted.by.stories (#queenie's halloween). totally, and amazingly I absolutely love petrichor but it seems a lot of people don't know what it is/the origin and I think that both of those things have a calming effect on me lol

Oh my goodness, petrichor is one of my favorite things and words ever. Amazing smell, especially when rain hits asphalt and/or red dirt. Excited for this novel also!
