nighttime muses

August 20, 2020

the night welcomes the lost with open arms
a safe harbor for weary travelers
where time does not pass
but instead melts on the tip of your tongue
like the soft breeze whispering through the trees
wrapping you in its smooth, sultry embrace
a blanket enveloping your worries
and easing them, even if just for a little while

neon lights cast fluorescent halos
crowning angels who rise after dusk
cars speed through,
low whistles lingering for a moment
then melding into the rusted air
streetlights burn like little supernovas,
exploding in luminescent color
then crumbling to dust

you walk past the stores,
ignoring the flickering glow of the 7-11 sign
back to what seems like your home, foreign under the cloak of night
turn off the lights, and let darkness surround you
marveling at the beauty of nothingness
and, as your eyelids shutter closed
the steady rhythm of your breathing slows
you let the night cover you,
protecting you
until tomorrow.
I'm not going to be as active during the school year, but I'll still try to post somewhat regularly. Does anyone feel like school drains their inspiration, or is it just me? Anyways, here's an older piece - not as refined, but definitely a good progress point!

WOW...this piece is stunning, to say the least! Honestly the way your words just flow together... purely gorgeous! I think the greatest mystery is how you write so beautifully?

I honestly love the imagery you painted here.
    “neon lights cast fluorescent halos
crowning angels who rise after dusk”
“ignoring the flickering glow of the 7-11 sign”
    Just breathtaking.
Also, I totally get what you mean about a school draining you.
