have I bit my tongue one too many times?
have I said it all the way I really meant to?"

sticky summer heat,
blaring car radio,
the soundtrack to my youth.

elton croons
of kings and vagabonds,
and i hum along
head bouncing along
to his rich baritone.

her majesty the queen
remember when
the princess was crowned
after she asked
whether she was in a fantasy?

loud racous household
noise canceling headphones
i just want freedom and peace.

she whispers in my ear,
omens of the bad guy
my children could become.

he enchants me
singing warning reminders
of how i used to dream
of who i am now,
yet now i dream
to be who i was
twenty years ago.

and cavetown laments
in my ear
about how his old friends
are more
the savory type.
and i want to reach
into the gentle hum
of the backing track
and become his new
citrus friend.

Yes, each stanza is based around a song.  :)
I wanted to create a full character by showing how they react to certain things. (I hope I did that well)

Anyway, for reference (especially the last two, because I feel like people don't know those two as well):

Elton John - Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Billie Eilish - bad guy
Ben Platt - Older
Cavetown - Lemon Boy

I saw the title, and thought of Cavetown. I'm happy that that was incorporated into this piece! It's really beautiful.

This is so creative, and you have an awesome taste in music! The title caught my eye because of Lemon Boy, though I initially thought it was a coincidence and was pleasantly surprised to see the song actually featured in the piece. Loved to see Ben Platt in there as well, I feel like his music is so underappreciated. Overall, I just love the way you depicted your relationship with each of these songs, and the emotions you feel when listening to them.

*sees Ben’s name* *goes into cardiac arrest* okay, but in all seriousness, this is such an awesome concept that was beautifully executed. And of course, extra points (not that there are points. Unless...) just for mentioning Ben Platt, much less making a stanza for one of the best songs ever made.
