I may or may not be experiencing this literally right now

How did I fall out of love with the night?
Things aren't supposed to change that quickly,
But evening went from being a build up to peace
To anxiety reaching its claws into my solitude.
I used to gaze up at stars or my bedroom ceiling.
Now my heart pounds with every second.
There's nothing to explain this immediate shift,
And I wish I didn't have to spend the dark hours
Using earbuds to try to drown out insanity.
Last night and the night before I've had horrible, unexplainable anxiety at night.

re: first of all, thank you! That's really sweet of you.
Aside from the re, first of all i really hope the anxiety gets better for you soon! Second of all, it's kind of amazing how much meaning you convey within just one stanza. Kudos!

It is one thing to share this experience and yet another thing to share it using such beautiful phrases “Using earbuds to try to drown out insanity” is my favourite line. Music helps in almost any situation. Thank you for sharing, I actually had no idea what ‘nyctophobia’ was before reading this, but I’m glad that I know now. I hope it gets easier for you :)

Wow, that sounds pretty scary. My suggestion is put on a lot of worship music. I used to have anxiety/nightmares whenever I slept away from home and listening to Christian music really helped change the atmosphere. Praying for you!
