FREE WRITING

Tendrils of violent navy slide down the sky 
like ink running down parchment
extinguishing the flames of the mellowing sun

A midnight star gleams brightest in the sky
hanging precariously off the darkness 
showing off its effervescent glamour 

a fugacious twinkle 
like fireflies in the sky winking down at you
imbuing a sense of safety
like a lullaby telling me to lay down 
and disappear into the world of dreams  

darkness is savage yet forgotten 
because in the bright light of the day
the night is but an evanescent thought
