I've always been a girl of bright spring mornings
One for twining flowers around my glasses
And breathing the scent of expectance in from the breeze

But there's something so poetic about winter rain
I long to be the girl who laughs up at dark clouds
Instead of merely hiding from the cold and chaos

Autumn has a way of slipping by without my noticing
California procrastinates fallen leaves and brisk air
I still wish to step into the season of haste

And everyone has written about summer daydreams
The sun has a way of bringing out tranquil wonder
Too often I hide from the simmer and burn

This is such a pretty poem! It captures each season really well. In response to what you said on my piece about wildlife in my yard: My dad loves to garden and my mom grew up in Wisconsin where there were a lot of trees, and so our yard is pretty big and full of all kinds of plants. Lots of animals are attracted to it, and that's when all the crazy stuff happens. XD It's cool there was a wild turkey near your house! Oh, and thanks for letting me know about the comment reply thingy.

Anne, this piece is divine. You describe each season so beautifully in a unique way avoiding clich├ęs but still fully capturing the wonder of each season as they come. The first stanza about Spring,
"I've always been a girl of bright spring mornings
One for twining flowers around my glasses
And breathing the scent of expectance in from the breeze"
It reminded me of poking my thumbnail into the stems of daisies to make daisy chains when I was younger. That stanza brought back that memory I'd forgotten.
The other stanzas are so powerful as well, it's just such a beautiful poem. I want to say it over and over because the words make me feel happy... idk if that's weird. I just love seasons a bit too much lol, nature is so so fascinating!
